Harvard Clock Co. 6" Presentation Marine Clock
Harvard Clock Co. 6" Marine Clock with superbly engraved silvered dial. The engraving says "Presented to Comrade Cornelius Harris, By Wm. H. Smart Post No. 30 GAR, May 1895". The 7 jewel movement has serial number 235 on the front plate and 234 on the backplate. William Smart was one of the first Union soldiers to die in the Civil War. He was a member of the Company G of the 1st Massachusetts Infantry Regiment and was killed at Blackburn's Ford, VA on July 18, 1861. The Grand Army of the Republic Post 30 in Cambridgeport, MA was named in his honor in 1867. The clock is listed on the Chelsea Clock Museum's Harvard Register of all known Harvard Clock Co. clocks.
